This is a legacy post that I’ve given a facelift because it’s a neat product. Opinions are the same, but is formatted and edited for easier reading and flow.

I received a single Deborah Lippmann The Stripper to Go sample foil in a cadre of samples . I tend to use pure acetone to remove my nail polish these days – the silly additives don’t actually seem to help, and they just weaken the product. When I wear regular polish, I tend to wear shimmery and glittery colors which pure acetone removes far more efficiently  less glitter and shimmer these days, but still. More often, though, I wear gel nail polish – a bottle of Cutex is not going to cut that.

Giving it a Go

I happened to be wearing a fun bright green on my toes that was ready to come off (China Glaze I’m With the Lifeguard, mentioned in my May Favorites, if you’re wondering). Out of acetone, but having just gone though my samples I reached for my sample Deborah Lippmann The Stripper to Go. I glanced at the packet and noticed it was supposed to smell like lavender, and that it was a, “finger mitt.” What? I wasn’t sure what to expect here, but the packaging said that one mitt will remove polish from all ten fingers.

It Costs How Much? The Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer

I believe in investing in quality products that will last. Not just trivial beauty products, but anything; if I buy a coat, I don’t want to have to replace it in at least five years. My time is worth a lot to me; I don’t relish having to spend my time to replace things when I could spend a bit more and have it last. Then, net-of-the-net is that I’ve spent less time AND money on that particular purchase.

In short, I’m comfortable with higher up-front investments (within reason, of course – price does not equal quality). Some believe the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is just that.

I Wear Old Spice Deodorant

Fun Fact: I’m a twenty-something woman, and I wear Old Spice deodorant. Bearglove, to be precise – and just the deodorant, not the antiperspirant. I like girly things and I have more dresses in my wardrobe than anything else.

I’m not:

  • Conducting some strange social experiment
  • Making a statement to society
  • Stealing my husband’s grooming items
    (He does wear Old Spice, but a different variety that smells way more masculine to us.)

Worth it? Vaseline Spray Moisturizer

Spray-on lotions have been a, “thing,” for a little while now – at least a year or two I believe. And why not? We have spray-on sunscreen. Even though I primarily use spray-on sunscreen for my body, I never considered spray lotions until recently.

The Motivation

Primarily? Laziness, go figure.

That aside, I recently repurchased some Eucerin, but accidentally purchased the wrong one due to a packaging change. The one I bought by mistake is effective but leaves a weird greasy feeling; that just doesn’t work when you need to get dressed sooner rather than later. That said, even my main squeeze didn’t always dry as fast as I’d like – in winter I’m not terribly keen on being chilly while lotion dries.

The $6 can of Vaseline Spray Moisturizer was a low-risk gamble in the first place, but throw in a coupon from the paper and it was an easy choice.

No Buy Check In

There’s strength in numbers – so I thought I’d share my, “progress,” in case anyone else is on a No Buy. My No Buy ran from Christmas to February 25. I am granting myself a brief reprieve, then resuming.

Incredibly, I’ve managed to not buy a single beauty product during that window. It hasn’t been without temptation.

The Rules

  • No new makeup, brushes, storage, or other tools
  • No new hair products or tools
  • No new nail products or tools
  • No fragrance purchases
  • No new skincare (but replenishment of facial cleanser and body lotion OK as realistically needed)
  • No purchases of beauty services (nail, hair, etc)

During my no buy, I setup rules to auto-delete my e-mails from Sephora, Ulta, Tarte, and MAC (that’s all I’m subscribed to) without reading them. I avoided the beauty section of YouTube for the most part. If I didn’t have something, I had to do without.
