Worth It? ecoTools Daily Brush Cleaner

ecoTools Daily Brush Cleaner

Precious few of us wash our makeup brushes as often as we should – but ecoTools Daily Brush Cleaner makes it easier for me to pull off.

Although washing our brushes at least weekly is high up there on the list of things we can do to improve both our application and skin’s health, a lot of us non-professionals just don’t do that. It is a bit silly when you think about it: caring for your tools – whether they are makeup tools or powertools – helps them last longer and perform better.

I used to use Cinema Secrets to buy time between proper soap washes, but when I saw that ecoTools, a more accessible and affordable brand, had a similar product (their ecoTools Daily Brush Cleaner), I wanted to try it out. Both less expensive and easier to get, it seemed a good fit as long as it worked.

ecoTools already had brush and sponge shampoos. This, however, is a solvent-based brush cleaner. With no dyes and fragrance, this is a lower-frills option. The vaguely vanilla fragrance in Cinema Secrets is to compensate for the fact that it is, well, a solvent. Regardless, I prefer that my brushes don’t have any lingering fragrance.

How to Use It

You use it the same way you use other solvent-based brush cleaners: apply to the bristles, then swirl and agitate the bristles on a cloth or paper towel. The product build up melts away.In a couple minutes everything else has evaporated and your brushes are ready to use.

It worked well on my Mac, Real Techniques, and Sonia Kashuk brushes with no issue! I am really pleased with how well it works.

The Bottom Line

It is more cost effective than Cinema Secrets by far and something you can get basically anywhere. That’s important to me! These days, a product must be exceptional for me to be okay with exclusively getting it at Sephora. You can pick up ecoTools Daily Brush cleaner at Amazon, Target, Wal-Mart, Ulta and more. These come in:

  • gigantic bottles (economical; 16oz is $20 or $1.25/oz – Cinema Secrets is 1.5x more expensive!) and
  • smaller spray bottles (convenient + lower commitment; 3oz with a spray top is $6.97 or $2.32/oz).
