Becca Rose Gold

This is one of the eight items in the Sephora Paint it Pink set.

I destroyed my only highlighter a few months ago. I wasn’t upset; it was glittery and not terribly flattering on me. I don’t contour much, and I strobe even less than that (aka never), but I did want something to fill that void at some point. I didn’t know what I wanted. Cream? Powder? What color? The super popular one from Becca and a certain YouTuber? No; it’s too much (visually). I don’t want to look like a disco ball; I am neither seventeen nor a pop star nor a YouTuber whose life revolves around being glamorous AF. The look would not suit my features or needs. So this set decided for me.

When I first cracked open Rose Gold, I got concerned that it would be too dark for me; that it might be better suited for a person with a deeper complexion than mine.

I swatched it on the back of my arm, though, and most of my concerns eroded away.

I said, “most,” because, unfortunately, this does have some fine glitter in it. It isn’t Urban Decay Space Cowboy level (or even Sidecar level) glitter, but it is glitter nonetheless…and I don’t want intense glitter on my cheeks. I’m past that phase of life.

Applied sparingly, though (like with this stippling brush or the ultra-nice Makeup Geek one), it is still quite lovely and you don’t look juvenile. Above, I swatched it on the left and applied with a fan brush on the right. There’s some shimmer there, but it isn’t overwhelming – and you can always take a beautyblender with remnants of your foundation and pat over it to subdue it if you need to.

I’ve worn it to work without weird looks in general or comments from my boss (who also got Paint it Pink!) so despite its initial deep tone, it works quite nicely on my skin both with my Sephora Serum Foundation and my Ponds BB+ cream.

The Bottom Line

Overall, it’s quite lovely and a little will go a long way. I am not convinced it is worth $38 for the full-sized pan; so to me, it isn’t worth it. There are less costly products that will work at least as well. When you take into consideration the highly delicate nature of these products (there are TONS of reviews of people with shattered pans without having dropped them), it isn’t a sensible investment for me. I’ll happily wear it, but I wouldn’t shell out for a full-sized pan.

Do you own any Becca products? Have you heard about that YouTuber’s new products with Becca? Let me know in the comments!

    • The flash definitely has a bit to do with it. It isn’t overwhelming in person, but there definitely is on the shimmery side.
