Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain

Three areas my collection is really wants for are lips, blush, and highlight. A few months ago, Sephora had their Rouge Infusion Lip Stain available as a BI point reward, so I picked one up. I like the idea of stains because although I love makeup, I’m hilariously lazy when it comes to reapplication. Peony was the available shade, and I was delighted – it seemed like it would be somewhat MLBB, maybe with a touch more pink, but still very like that.

The Rouge Infusion Lip Stain tube is cute and reminds me of a vial, but it may suck to store if you keep all your lip products in an organizer in which they are intended to stand up. The Peony shade is pretty.

…and that’s where the good ends.

The first thing I noticed when I unscrewed and extracted the wand is the strong, peculiar scent of this product. They added a ton of fragrance to this and it is cloying, sickly sweet. That might be okay if it had some pleasant flavor or whatever but NOPE. I accidentally, absentmindedly licked my lips at some point after application and it was definitely not nice.

Speaking of application – it isn’t good. The product is very thin and watery, resulting in a patchy application. Getting an even application might involve selling your soul – and is that worth it? Heavens no. Once applied, the product dries to a semi-shiny, really awkward tacky, sticky finish – and that particular quality means the finish deteriorates even further through normal activity like speaking.

Once it fades and becomes even more patchy (within an hour or two), reapplication is a nightmare. You’re better off removing all product and starting fresh with a new application.

That said, removal has its quirks. It seems to stain the lips in some areas but not others, so if you’re just giving up with the product for the day altogether, you might want to have a backup lipcolor on hand so you don’t look foolish with inconsistently-stained, dry lips.

The Bottom Line

It’s no wonder why Sephora was trying to get rid of the Rouge Infusion Lip Stain by BI Reward points and no wonder why it is now on clearance for 50% off (down to $7 each). Don’t waste your money, there are FAR better stains out there.
