Rose Quartz & Serenity: Pantone Colors of the Year 2016

Rose Quartz is pretty, but aside from a pale blush, eyeshadow, I can’t see it in makeup. Sephora always does a collection of silly things that more often than not end up in their Sale section until, heavens, the following holiday season.

In fact, I’m trying to figure out this year’s collection…

Rose Quartz (via the Wayback Machine) lipstick is not reviewed favorably, with many buyers reporting sheer application, lack of pigmentation, and an inconsistent formula. I’m not seeing any reliable looks with it on its own; it needs to be married to a liner or other lipcolor to be remotely useful. Shame, considering it’s supposed to be a, “high coverage, pigment-loaded,” shade. At $18, nope.

Serenity (via the Wayback Machine) is a pale blue that reminds me of Periwinkle. It is matte, and seems to be opaque, but still isn’t doing so hot on the ratings chart. It isn’t a look I’m interested in, personally, but it doesn’t seem to be a complete disappointment if you’re into blue-hued lips.

The Modern Watercolors Lip Gloss Set (via the Wayback Machine) is fun to look at! It, unfortunately, also does not have great reviews – but I suspect in this case that those are coming from customers who didn’t understand what they were buying. Most, “boo!” reviews are complaining of lack of opacity. I’m over here like, “You know what watercolor paints look like, right?” Of course they aren’t opaque. The formula itself, how it feels, seems to be doing well, but people aren’t thrilled with $28 of novelty-factor glosses.

Finally, you’ve got the Modern Watercolors Eye Palette (via the Wayback Machine). The twenty-four shade palette is brighter, overall, than I expected given its name. I like the fact that they’ve done an overlay with the shadow names, but that’s about all I like. I very much so get the impression that this palette is a $39 gimmick. If you want brights, there are better palettes to get them in than this one.

Leave Rose Quartz to nail polish (would be a sure-fire hit!) or jewelry (very lovely!), and Serenity to paint and things.
