Urban Vices Point Perk

During the 20% off Sephora VIB sale, I lost my mind slightly and went for the Urban Vices Point Perk, blowing 500 of my Beauty Insider points. I was going to spend 100 points on a setting powder, but they ran out. I’ve been banking points for a bit (but not because of the point disaster earlier this year), so why the hell not?

The Urban Vices Point Perk set isn’t earth-shattering. It isn’t the best value among the other 500 Point Perk sets they’ve offered, but it isn’t the worst either. It features a shadow quad housed in a cardboard palette with mirror, a sample of UDPP, and a deluxe sample-sized 24/7 liner in Smokeout (which supposedly matches the fourth shade in the quad, and lives in the quad).

I was skeptical of whether or not I care for the purple shade in the quad, Hoodoo, but it’s surprisingly nice. Now just to figure out how to wear purples that aren’t plum…

Anyway, here are some (shoddy, I’ll admit) swatches for you, ordered the same as they are in the palette:

  • Dope is a light, frosty, peachy shade. It’s lighter than I was hoping, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It will just end up being more of a highlight shade. I just wished it had more oomph, this was probably the shade I was most excited for; I own nothing like it.
  • Hoodoo is a kind of…lavender, wisteria, idk. For me, it will never dominate a look, I don’t think, but it could be a fun accent. Ooh, or with Live it Up from Too Faced Everything Nice.
  • Derailed is a cool, shimmery brown. At first, I thought it reminded me of Busted from Naked2, but no; this is lighter and has more shimmer. Very wearable, though. Very pigmented, applies easily.
  • Smokeout is a blackened brown with a touch of shimmer; it would be lovely in a smokey eye (now if only I weren’t scared of them)! Also very pigmented!

To my delight and surprise, the 24/7 Liner in Smokeout provided in the Urban Vices Point Perk set does match the shadow-version of the same. I don’t use many pencil liners to begin with, so I don’t actually know if Urban Decay nails this every time when they release a liner in an existing shadow shade, but props this time at least. It glides on just like you’d expect any other 24/7 liner from Urban Decay – and I love that it isn’t quite black; although I do wear black eyeliner (Maybelline gel liner in Blackest Black is my holy grail, after all), I prefer my pencils to be brown.

Thankfully, some of these points were acquired through one of Sephora’s rare multiplier promos, or I’d be really emo about this (yes, even though I like the products). I don’t think it is worth this much in points, but if you have enough points to blow and don’t see anything you love for you, check out the current 500 Point Perks; they might make a good gift for a friend.

Have you ever gotten any of the 500 Point Perk Sets? Were you satisfied?
